KCSB News Presents: Unnatural Disasters & Environmental Racism

Monday, February 25, 2019 at 5 PM – 8 PM

The focus of this panel is the implications of (Un) Natural Disasters on marginalized communities due to noninclusive and outdated policies. This will include discussion of case studies and their impact on communities as well as collaborative efforts in moving forward–envisioning how policy makers and government responses can incorporate marginalized communities.

KCSB-FM and IV Trading Post are hosting a yard sale/hangout on Wed., February 27th in the KCSB Courtyard (under Storke Tower).

Stop by between 12p and 4p for some cool(?) kcsb swag, good(?) records and cds, interesting(?) individuals, and tasty(?) food.

Isla Vista Trading Post will be hosting a pop-up thrift shop where everyone that comes can take 3 items!

AS Government Affairs would like to extend an invitation to attend workshops on Microagressions & Implicit Bias, hosted by Just Communities.

Just Communities offers cultural competency training to organizational leaders, education seminars for the general public, leadership training institutes for students and teachers, and customized consultation to local agencies for diversity and organizational change initiatives.

The first workshop is tomorrow Friday, March 1, 2019 located in the Harbor Room at the UCEN, and the topic is Microagressions. There are two sessions, the first is from 1:30pm-3:00pm, and the second is from 3:30pm-5:00pm. Both sessions will contain the same content, so please feel free to attend whichever best suits your schedules.

The second workshop is next Wednesday, March 6th located in the Mission Room at the UCEN, and the topic is Implicit Bias. There are two sessions, the first is from 1:30pm-3:00pm, and the second is from 3:30pm-5:00pm. Volunteers Needed: Isla Vista Street Lighting Outreach

The Isla Vista Community Services District is in need of volunteers to canvass for the Isla Vista Lighting Expansion Plan! We would like to get feedback from residents about improving lighting throughout Isla Vista and particularly on their street.
We will meet at the IVCSD office on the first floor for a canvassing orientation at 1pm, then canvassing should take about 2 hours.

AS Program Board presents… a free Noon Storke Show ft. Carter Ace!

Stop by Storke Plaza on Friday, March 1st to enjoy a free show by Carter Ace, as well as FREE Guayaki Yerba Mates and KIND bars!

Carter Ace is a 5-person R&B band from Los Angeles, California that pulls influence from Rap/Hip-Hop, R&B, G-Funk, Soul, and Jazz in order to provide their unique sound. They recently released their single “I Think I’m Normal,” produced by Isom Innis of Foster the People.

As of now, they’ve racked up more than 400,000 streams across all platforms, performed at the NAMM show, opened for Wyclef Jean, and have been credited as a writer and vocalist on the RZA’s song “No Refuge” in 2017.
