A.S. Elections Board

Kick off the virtual spring quarter by submitting your candidate statement + candidate forums TODAY. If you need extra time, you can make edits until the FINAL DEADLINE this Wednesday @ 8pm.

We sent every candidate an email two weeks ago (March 17) with everything you need to know about those two outreach items! If you’re still working on your statement or videos, refer to that for details.

We’re available by email today so let us know if you have questions!

Sea Life Spotlight! The western snowy plover is a threatened small shorebird, approximately the size of a sparrow. The snowy plover has a special place in the hearts of Santa Barbara residents and Coal Oil Point Reserve has a program in place to help these birds! In Channel Islands National Park, it is a permanent resident on Santa Rosa Island and is a summer resident on Santa Cruz Island. It’s currently nesting season, so watch out for the roped off areas at Sands Beach and check out the Coal Oil Point Reserve website to find out more information about this wonderful seabird:

For spring quarter, the AS Food Bank will be open as a distribution center only. UCSB students can pick up brown bags of food on Wednesday and Fridays from 10am – 3pm or when we run out. Reservations are not necessary and we will make available a QR code for you to sign in.

March 27, 2020 Quick Update:
Amid the current circumstances, we’ve decided to shift to the term ‘virtual campaigning’ this quarter.

‘Virtual campaigning’ is a better descriptor of this year’s campaigning cycle because it includes everything that was previously considered soft campaigning, plus whatever elements of ‘active campaigning’ that can be reasonably completed in a virtual setting.

In the coming days we will be reaching out to parties and independents for a virtual meeting to discuss plans for Elections week (due Fri 4/10 @ 8pm) and to answer any questions.

**Note: The below list is for reference, but it is not exhaustive. If you’re a candidate with other ideas and would like to clarify if it’s allowed, an easy way is to reach out to your party lialson who will be able to pass on your question. If you’re an independent, you will be attending the virtual meeting with us.**

Virtual campaigning starts Sunday, April 12 @ 8pm and ends when the ballot closes on Thursday, April 23 @ 4pm.

We are sorry to announce the A.S. Book Bank will be closed for Spring 2020 in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. Please DM on Instagram @asbookbank or email bookbank@as.ucsb.edu if you have any questions. If you currently have a book or iClicker out, don’t worry. Simply return them in the fall. We hope professors are exhibiting maximum flexibility especially in regards to textbook costs for this quarter and hope that most, if not all, your required materials can be found on Gauchospace.

We hope everyone is having a safe and productive start to their spring quarter! In light of current circumstances, the major grant deadline will remain the same (April 10), but our grant presentations will be conducted over Zoom to maintain social distancing.
All applicants are welcome to submit any supplemental material they deem helpful alongside their application. We will be enabling screen-sharing as needed during presentations for applicants who have slides or other visuals. If you have any questions regarding grant applications, feel free to email coastalfund@gmail.com or sarahs@as.ucsb.edu

A message brought to you by @ucsbevpla + @ucsbcreativemedia: Please social distance and stay inside so we can be reunited at the school we love in the Fall!
