Associated Students, UCSB switched to a Single Transferable Voting (STV) system for the Spring 2016 student elections. New software was developed to do the complex calculations inherit to ranked voting. Today AS UCSB makes this software available for download as an open source project. With this software, universities and organizations can conduct rankings-based online elections without worrying about the complicated tabulation process. https://www.as.ucsb.edu/news/stv-software-release/

From the Department of Public Worms

The key to Zero Waste is to stop generating it in the first place!

Here are some tips our Worm Wranglers live by:
1. Don’t overshop – buy produce for just one or two weeks, and have a plan for all the ingredients!
2. Bring your own utensils – plastic comes from petrochemicals!
3. Reusable water bottles only!
4. Ban plastic bags for yourself – fill your backpack, and keep a reusable grocery bag with you at all times.

REDUCE, REUSE, and only RECYCLE as a last resort! Let’s keep the land-fill from overflowing – we’re all in this together.
