candidate
Danielle Lesure - Students' Party

What's up UCSB students! My name is Danielle Lesure and I am a first year student seeking the office of Associated Students' Representative at Large with Students' Party. I have years of leadership experience prior to attending UCSB and I feel that it is time to implement those skills within my collegiate community. One of my goals, along with my fellow Students' Party members, is to increase student awareness and involvement with Associated Students' affairs so that you, the students, will have more influence on the issues. In addition, I am passionate about preventing a fee for residents to park in Isla Vista. With the help of the members of my party I aim to create a fun and safe collegiate environment. Make the right choice. Vote Students' Party.

candidate
Rodolfo "Rudy" Lopez - Student Action Coalition

The wise and non-violent activist Mahatma Gandhi once said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." My name is Rodolfo (Rudy) Lopez and I am a first year student at UCSB. I strongly carry Gandhi's idea close to my heart because I also believe that there is no way social change can be made without people fighting for it. Arriving to UCSB I looked around and was astonished to see that the diversity on this campus seemed to be very little. I wanted to know where all the people of color went. The demographics on this campus did not match the ideas that inequality and oppression were things of the past, which have always been echoed throughout my life. As representative at large I will work towards diversifying our campus by bringing awareness of the importance of higher education to our youth. I will also work on stopping the proposed fee increase that would make education much harder to obtain. I will work collectively with other organizations to make this a safe and progressive environment for women, the queer community, and people of color. Change is only attainable through perseverance and devotion and freedom is non-existent unless everyone is free. VoteSAC.com, Taking Action, Attaining Access.

Nicole Sonquist - Student Unity Now

We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and are so fortunate to live here. I should know because I've lived here my whole life. What's up, UCSB? My name is Nicole Sonquist and I am running as an At-Large Student Representative for the S.U.N. party. As a third year here at UCSB, I am ready to face the challenges that lie ahead for our campus and to help grow, develop, and continue as on of the top universities in the world. The more time I spend with members of the S.U.N. party I realize how many amazing people want to be involved and really make a difference. In addition, we have the most experienced, fun loving and compassionate President and Vice-Presidents that you will see running for Legislative Council. That is precisely why I am here. I want to see what we can do to see that our AMAZING coastline preserved. I want a stronger and more unified student body. Let's see what we can do about giving a louder voice to the women's organizations on campus. I would like to see emphasis in the arts and more recognition for student art. And most importantly, let's improve the lines of communication that we have at this school and bridge the gap between all group identities on this campus. Vote Student Unity Now, and let's begin the process of making UCSB a foundation of success for all of us. Visit www.votesun.com.

candidate
Selyna Perez - Students' Party

Listen up Gauchos! My name is Selyna Perez and I am running for Representative at Large for the Students' Party. I have served as a proxy on legislative council for two quarters and I am very familiar with the structure of Associated Students. I am also an individual dedicated to Outreach programs. I am a current employee of EOP and will be involved in the Upward Bound program which encourages first-generation, low-income high school students to attend a university and pursue college in the future. I am also involved in Student Lobby which is a group dedicated to fighting for the rights and voice of students. I am a committed, persevering individual dedicated to making a difference within the UCSB community. I enjoy interacting with all types of people and working hard to achieve my goals. I believe I have the energy and leadership skills to get things done on campus. So let's organize and take action! Vote Students' Party 2004.

candidate
Alina Akram - Students' Party

My name is Alina Akram; I am running for Rep @ Large with Students' Party. As an all-around responsible and hard working student, I plan on taking advantage of such a position and doing all that I can to improve situations for UCSB's students both on campus and in Isla Vista. Being first exposed to A.S. in my second year, I feel that it is more of an exclusive organization, not always welcoming to all students. Therefore, I plan on making it a point to help get students involved, in order for them to gain the most from their student government. I would also like to see UCSB's culturally diverse community gain better representation in A.S. and coming from an underrepresented group, I believe that I can help accomplish this. I plan on dealing with issues that not only affect all UCSB students as a whole, but issues that are important to those underrepresented students as well. With Student's Party I know that these issues and many more will not only be addressed, but also taken care of. Vote Students' Party!!!

Jessica Lozano - Student Action Coalition
"I have no mouth. And I must scream."
- H. Ellison

The University of California belongs to those who study in it. As students, we need to have our voices heard in order to let the University know what we want from it. My name is Jessica Lozano, and I'm running for Representative at Large. If elected I will ensure that all student demands and concerns be heard by the University. When you need to scream, I shall be the mouth through which you'll be able to do it.

Have you ever wondered what your academic department is doing inside its enclosed walls? As a major, you should not be left in the dark. You should be informed of all actions taken by the department, voice your opinions, and make them count. OFFICIALLY. The Student Action Coalition has extended this to all departments and is determined to establish an official student vote in all academic departments.

In addition, as an active member of one of the oldest and progressive organizations on campus, El Congreso, I have worked in solidarity with a number of campus groups such as Women's Commission and I.V. Tenants Union, as well as with non-campus groups like PUEBLO. I am currently working on bringing I.V. families and UCSB students together to form coalitions in order to address common concerns such as decent rent and living conditions in Isla Vista.

My main goal is to represent the general student body both on and off campus, and to help run an efficient student government that will address student needs. If elected, I will not only continue to work on forming I.V. family and UCSB student coalitions and to establish a student vote in all academic departments, I will also work on addressing issues that are dear to me and many of you. This includes women and environmental issues, racial equality, among others.

So if you feel that you have no mouth and you need to scream...let me be the outlet through which you will be able to do so.

candidate
Jasmine Vance - Student Action Coalition

What is a place where every face you see looks like your own? My name is Jasmine Vance and I am running with the Student Action Coalition for Representative at Large. The pressing issues that I believe need to be addressed are outreach and diversity. It is imperative that we have representatives of every race, creed and color here at UCSB so that we can potentially learn from one anther and our cultures. I am currently a member of Akanke, I am also an African American Cultural Intern with EOP, and worked with the African American student outreach program in 2003. It is important to me that the concerns that you have are brought to the entire student government. So I will work hard, along with the rest of the SAC team, to ensure that your voice is heard. So when you vote, Vote SAC. It is a vote for diversity, community, and action. Taking Action, Attaining Success!

candidate
Yvonne Tran - Student Action Coalition

Hello! My name is Yvonne Tran, a communications and law & society major. You know changes need to be made at our school, you know what those changes are, but find it difficult to communicate it to anyone, well frankly, I am your gal! I am running for Rep-at-Large with the Student Action Coalition because I understand the importance of representation when it comes to the issues you care about. Like the overcrowding of university classes. The frustration of crashing a 101 course with 170 students for 100 seats can leave anyone feeling irate. And that is WHY I strongly oppose the budget cuts to education, which is compromising our future. For the past three years I have been involved with a statewide racial justice organization and currently serving on the board of directors. Thus I know what it takes to diversify our school and make the needed changes. I am here to represent YOU. So don't be shy, communicate! VoteSAC.com, Taking Action Attaining Access. E-mail me at Athenagoddess@umail.ucsb.edu

candidate
Jason Everitt - Students' Party

My name is Jason Everitt and I am a second-year Political Science major running for Representative at Large for the STUDENTS' PARTY. I am the President of the Inter-fraternity Council and a founding father and President of my own fraternity. I currently represent the interests of 1600 students distributed amongst 20 Greek organizations. I also serve the students of UCSB as Attorney General. I bring actual experience with Associated Students, an uncommon attribute in the field of candidates, as well as experience representing large numbers of students and initiating programs to their benefit. There are a lot of things I'd like to do as part of Legislative Council. At present, I'm working with the Women's Center and associated groups to supply students with Date Rape Drink Test Strips as a means to combat rape and sexual assault. I'd also like to strengthen the business services of Associated Students so that the budget crisis doesn't limit the amount of money we can spend on student groups and student-sponsored programming. I think that the experience I have as part of Associated Students and students groups combined with a genuine interest in being involved and helping students would make me a great candidate for Representative at Large and Legislative Council. STUDENTS PARTY is all about helping every student. We want people to know what their student government does for them, from stopping sexual assault and keeping parking free in IV to throwing barbecues and concerts. If you want more good times, STUDENTS PARTY.

candidate
Christine Lai - Student Unity Now

Dedication. Passion. Serving YOU! Associated Students is the student body of UCSB and it is my goals to make it more accessible and show what resources you have at your disposal as a fellow Gaucho. As a Representative-at-Large, I will be your voice at Legislative Council meetings and will make it a point to open up A.S. to be yours! This past year I have served as the Vice-Chair on Academic Affairs Board where it has been one of my goals to create more majors and minors, and a Student Representative on the Academic Senate for Student Affairs where I have worked with administration and faculty to bridge the communication gap between students and staff, and I want to continue to ensure that your concerns and needs are met. Through this position on Legislative Council, I wish to make A.S. an organization that is friendly and welcoming in creating an atmosphere that embraces all students while representing all students. Student Unity Now represents you and is driven by the most hardworking and experienced students. Make your vote count and VOTE SUN and CHRISTINE for Rep-at-Large! Visit www.VOTESUN.com for more information on what we hope to accomplish, or contact me at christine-lai@umail.ucsb.edu.

Kelly Burns - Student Action Coalition

Taking Action and Attaining Access: this is the role and direction SAC will continue to take as your student leadership. My name is Kelly Burns and I am running for Rep at Large to advocate and represent your needs. I am a first year Political Science and Global Studies major, I have already acquired experience by becoming active in as many issues as possible. I am currently the Multi Cultural Chair of Executive Council for Anacapa. This year I was active in the Governor recall campaign and Prop 54. I was also an intern and a block leader for the March Supervisor Campaign. I have been active in voter registration, worked with Student Lobby and Campus Democrats, and I have co-sponsored legislation with the current party. I believe student government should help each individual have the greatest possible impact to ensure that there is a connection between public opinion and legislative action. If elected, I plan to work with the Environmental Affairs Board and Student Lobby to continue making UCSB take influential steps toward social justice and environmental issues. I feel it is important to represent and protect people of all ethnicities and backgrounds tearing down barriers and uniting everyone to work together. It is also important to ensure your trust in us to monitor and fight for student needs such as preventing tuition increase. Vote for Kelly Burns for Rep At Large! A vote for SAC is a vote for dedication and action.

candidate
Kristen Ditlevsen - Students' Party

My name is Kristen Ditlevsen. I'm running for reelection as a Rep At-Large on Legislative Council. Last year I ran with SAC but after a year in office I have chosen to run again with a new party - one with clear objectives, attainable goals, and people who want to make positive change for students at UCSB: Students' Party. I have spent the last year working to improve and expand the services offered by the A.S. Legal Resource Center and serve the students in Isla Vista by building dialogue between students, policy makers, and law enforcement through the A.S. Commission on Public Safety. Through my position I have continually taken a stand for students' freedom of choice and defended their right to privacy in the face of policies such as Parental Notification. In the coming year I will continue to work on my long term goal of developing the Legal Resource Center so that students can be fully represented in all legal matters. I want to keep organizing meetings for students, police officers, and school administration to talk about Isla Vista issues and increase the role that students have in shaping the policies that affect their school and their home. An active student voice is critical to maintain students' rights on campus and in I.V. So when elections roll around remember to vote Students' Party: Your choice. Your voice.

candidate
Kavita Kapur - Student Action Coalition

My name is Kavita Kapur and I'm a first year Environmental Studies major. This year I became actively involved with Indus and took part in representing the South-Asian diversity of UCSB on both a state and national level. Through my experiences, I have come to understand that our campus is a diverse one, not only in background, but in intellect and thought as well. If elected as a Representative at Large, I will work to facilitate discussion and cooperation within the different groups on campus. I will organize debates between the various political organizations in order to provide a non-partisan political awareness to all students. I will work with Student Lobby to ensure that UCSB students utilize the powerful voice of higher education. As a member of the Student Action Coalition, I will represent people of color, the environmentally conscious, the queer community, low-income groups, and all UCSB students. Together, we will continue to support the California Student Sustainability Coalition and work towards building a more sustainable future for this campus. We will work to facilitate better interaction between students and academic departments as well as administrators, to ensure that the quality and accessibility of education are the highest priorities. So remember, vote for SAC because as Dr. Seuss once wrote, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Vote SAC: Taking Action, Attaining Access.

candidate
Jonathan Clotworthy - League Of Independent Candidates

Hi, my name is Jonathan Clotworthy and I am running for Representative-at-Large for the League of Independent Candidates (LIC). I am a second year Cultural Anthropology major and Global Peace and Security Minor, and I hope to be your rep at large for the 2004-2005 year. My past leadership experience includes working for the Residence Hall Association as a hall council president, an intern for the Housing Department, and this year as the RHA administrative Vice President. Outside of RHA I have served as a rep to AS Program Board and OSL's Alternative Social Programming Committee. If elected I will work towards better communication and cooperation amongst student groups in order to create a more united UCSB community. I will continue to serve as an advocate for the protection of open spaces and greenery around campus and engage in dialogue with the university to create environmental friendly "green" buildings. From my experiences with different safety agencies on campus I am aware of the issues facing our campus and will work towards creating a safer UCSB for all students. Based on all of these different experiences with leadership organizations and my interactions with various campus administrators, I am familiar with how the university system functions, and how to get the best out of it for you, the students. So come April 20th, remember to vote on GOLD for Jonathan Clotworthy for Representative at Large

Kelly Finnerty - Student Unity Now

UCSB offers oodles of services and fun events that oftentimes we students miss because of poor communication between the administration and the student body. Our gigantic student population makes it easy for us to do what is convenient and familiar, but we are actually missing out on many great opportunities. For example, did you know that UCSB students are entitled to a lawyer by the school? Expanding the knowledge of these resources is one of the major reasons I want to be a part of Legislative Council and one reason why I am part of Students Unite Now (S*U*N). As Representative at Large I would be readily available to listen to your needs and find suitable solutions to your problems. UCSB is an amazing school and I look forward to only making it better. Let me represent you and I will work hard to make the school's system facilitate you! For more info please visit votesun.com.

candidate
Marcus Duarte-Smith - Students' Party

Hello, my name is Marcus Duarte Smith and I am running for Rep. at Large with Students' Party. I am a second year philosophy major. I will bring a change to the current A.S. government; this is my first time running for an A.S. position. The Students' Party is dedicated to reaching out to the students and giving back to the community. This is why we support more functions such as: bbq's before sport's games and other events, fighting the tuition increases and providing more events for students to interact with one another. These student-initiated issues and activities would be in addition to the operating functions of student government. We are a party for all, fresh on the scene, open to all who'll roll with us.
