Students' Party is committed to facilitating positive change within the UCSB community. The party will promote a fun, safe, and responsible learning environment that encourages diversity of opinion as well as amplified student empowerment. The collective student interests must be respected and addressed in addition to those of under represented groups within the UCSB community. Students' Party is dedicated to sustaining activism. The party is committed to intelligent fiscal management of all ASUCSB monies. The promotion of new ideas and increased student involvement will be upheld through guidance and accessibility. Guidance is not to impose a personal belief onto another student, but to provide information and the tools necessary for the student to take action. Access to Students' Party will remain open to all students. More involvementÉ more progressÉ more good times.
The League of Independent Candidates is founded on the idea that student leadership need not be inhibited by the party system, but be able to flourish as individuals working for the common good of all students. The League of Independent Candidates (LIC) is not a party, but merely a group of students who wish to bypass traditional organization and make more efficient use of resources in order to ensure further cooperation and coordination among students and the campus community. Our goal is to provide educational, representational, and social benefits for the students, without being tied down to set special interests. As an alternative to party commitments, we can serve as representatives who are more in tune to the diversified atmosphere of the student body. The League proposes no restriction of ideology, but strongly encourages a wide spectrum of ideas, as we feel all interests of the student body must be heard.
Student Action Coalition (S.A.C.) commits itself to ensuring that all students have a represented voice. In order to do this, we will create a safe space for women, people of color, people with disabilities, the queer community, low-income communities, and all UCSB students. To ensure that all students are protected equally, S.A.C. will move towards administration accountability and fiscal transparency. S.A.C. realizes that UCSB is an area with diverse environmental issues and will work to keep our school green. From the UCSB campus to the global sphere, the coalition promotes peaceful resolutions without the use of violence. UCSB is a progressive community and our student government should continue to reflect that sentiment. A vote for S.A.C. is a vote for student equality and solidarity.
Tired of the man getting you down as he yells "dance puppets dance!" Tired of not even knowing why you're dancing? Sure these moves may not be visible, but is the student voice truly audible? Thankfully, to some extent it is, but S*U*N* is ready to increase the decibels on all levels. Through effective collaboration with the administration and legislative bodies, S*U*N* will create legal, academic and financial services that are missing, while using the technological resources that we already posses to improve relationships and communication. Better communication will enhance student appreciation and inform students on how to defend your rights as tenants, activists, and UC scholars. Like a rabid watchdog S*U*N* will hover over institutions that have a powerful hand in determining our future in a way that ensures that all elements of change are, fair, safe, equal, realistic environmentally sustainable and student-driven. While our attention grabbing antics may be quirky, you can rest assured that our genuine leadership is passionate, progressive, professional, powerful and productive. Already our candidates have taken action on multiple levels by leading A.S committees, speaking at city council meetings, lobbying in Sacramento and defending our school's reputation on national television. Finally, fellow students, no matter what group defines you; male/female minority/majority, introvert/extrovert, queer/straight, freshman/super senior, bicyclist/pedestrian/skater/unicyclist, crazy or sane, Student Unity Now will serve you with a fire that never burns out. So Instead of dancing like puppets, let's all sing together like American Idol's William Hung, with a passion and tenacity that just won't quitÉand once the music's right, we'll all dance to our own beat.
