What's going on people, my name is Courtney Schroeder and I am running for Internal Vice President. For the past three years at UCSB I have been working for the students. Helping fight initiatives like Prop 54 but also serving my community through several student organizations. From Gaucho Toastmasters to Black Student Union I have been working with students to create a stronger community and increased student involvement.
I am running with Student Action Coalition because of their strong history of advocating for student rights and commitment to their goals.
Persistence. This is one of the most valuable skills when trying to create change. I am excited about the opportunity to represent the students' needs.
Understanding that the state is going through a budget crisis, I will push to ensure that the UC priority of affordable quality education for everyone is met. In order to do this I will lobby to save outreach programs that have proven to be successful and at the same time push to stop the increase in student fees.
As Internal Vice President, one of my priorities would be to increase the number of students involved in student government and raise the level of student awareness about what Associated Students has to offer. I am also looking forward to ensuring that our campus continues to take steps to be environmentally friendly.
I would like to challenge all students who are not apart of a student organization to do so. Change comes through student organizing.
Like movies, lectures, concerts and special events? If so, I hope that you have taken advantage of one of the many events that Program Board has put on this year. The eclectic mix of involvement, from overseeing the A.S. Program Board to working as an EMT for UCSB ambulance, and leading as the president of my fraternity, has given me a great foundation that I may apply to the position of Internal Vice President. My involvement with numerous student organizations and administrations has been directed towards cutting down the bureaucratic red tape that seems to plague our university. The same drive and passion that I have put into Program Board, is the same energy that fuels Student Unity Now. My goal this year on Program Board and next year as Internal Vice President, will be to provide the necessary resources to accomplish whatever it is you and your student organization want to achieve. From funding to lobbying, I can provide the contacts that are necessary to transfer your aspirations into concrete events and progress. I will be a solid and equitable resource for all students by providing the strongest path to get from planning to success, no matter what that might entail. The experiences that add to your education here are invaluable and I want to provide a better framework to enrich and increase such experiences. I ask you to allow me the opportunity to serve you as a source of knowledge and experience in the Legislative Council for next year. For more info visit votesun.com
