ABOUT THE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORES

The Constitution instructs the Senate to elect two (2) president pro-tempores to preside over the Senate in the absence of the Internal Vice-President. In addition to presiding over the Senate, the president pro-tempores fulfill a number of other responsibilities. In consultation with the Internal Vice-President, for example, the 1st president pro-tempore chairs every and any Ad-Hoc committee that arises, as well as Senate legislative and legal counsel.

1st Senate President Pro-Tempore

The president pro-tempore (often shortened to 1st pro-temp) is the second-highest-ranking official of the Associated Students Senate. Unlike the Internal Vice-President, the president pro-tempore is an elected member of the Senate, able to speak or vote on any issue. During the Internal Vice-President’s absence, the president pro-tempore is empowered to preside over Senate sessions and assumes the Internal Vice-President’s responsibilities.

2nd Senate President Pro-Tempore

The second-president pro-tempore (often shortened to 2nd pro-temp) is the third-highest-ranking official of the Associated Students Senate. Unlike the Internal Vice-President, the second-president pro-tempore is also an elected member of the Senate, able to speak or vote on any issue. In the president pro-tempores’ absence, the second president pro-tempore assumes their responsibilities.
