Services

AS Recycling provides several recycling services to the UCSB campus, including but not limited to:

Indoor Techno Recycling Bins:

The 16 indoor Techno Recycling Bins located around campus are serviced twice a week by our Hazardous Waste Trained “Techno Workers”. Using an electric truck, the Techno Workers pick up e-waste from our three techno bins at each location and recycle all the material 100%!

Presentations:

Interested in having our trained staff give a presentation on UCSB’s Associated Students Recycling and Composting efforts? Do you have young students, staff or a group of intrigued individuals interested in learning more about recycling and composting? This 30 minute presentation gives a detailed look at the campus recycling and composting program and a “how to” guide to recycling on campus and in your community. Please contact ASR for more information.

Composting:

Department of Public Worms:

The Department of Public worms located at People’s Park in Isla Vista, houses 4 of our trademark vermicomposting bins. Each bin has approximately 100 lbs of red worms! These red worms are hungry little suckers consuming over 50lbs of food scraps a day. Currently DPW is collecting food scraps from Java Jones in Isla Vista, Carillo Dining Commons and the UCen Dining Services.

Euc Grove Composting:

The AS Recycling Eucalyptus Grove Composting Program is designed as a demostration site for those interested in learning more about the hands on methods of setting up and maintaining a vermicompost system. Our 5 Vermicompost bins provide an example of several designs of vermicompost bins available. Please contact AS Recycling for more information on composting workshops.

Outdoor Recycling Clusters:

The ASRP services over 90 clusters on campus. The clusters include aluminum, glass, plastic and newspaper recycling. The cluster also provides a slot for trash. Each cluster is serviced once a day Monday through Friday. Student workers, called “Route Riders” take out tricycles with a trailer and recycle bins on a route to empty and clean the clusters.

Party Bins:

AS Recycling provides free mobile trash, compost and recycling services to campus programs, groups and organizations.
