Get Involved If you live in the Tri-Counties (San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura) area and are intrigued by the magical powers of the airwaves, you should consider becoming involved at KCSB.

Producing Your Own Program

If you are serious about producing a truly alternative program (music, public affairs, cultural, etc.), then you must first go through our AM training station KJUC. You will be required to spend one quarter (about 10 weeks) on KJUC before being eligible for KCSB. Yes, it's that easy. During your tenure on KJUC, you can go through our training process to become certified to having a program on KCSB. Don't forget, you MUST go through KJUC first.

After you are certified, you must turn in a KCSB show proposal at the beginning of the academic quarter to apply for a timeslot. If you have never been on KCSB before, you must turn in a tape of a KJUC show for review. If you are continuing on KCSB, you must still turn in a show proposal, have worked at least 4 contract hours in the past quarter, and have corrected any log errors.

News & Sports

KCSB has both News and Sports Departments that produce programming. The News Department produces a 15 minute newscast every weekday and the Sports Department follows with a 15 minute spot of their own. The Sports Department also airs NCAA UCSB Gaucho games. If you would like to be a part of this, contact the News Department or email the News Directors.

KJUC Information

KJUC is KCSB's AM sister training station. KJUC broadcasts to the UCSB Residence Halls at a frequency of 770 and 880 kHz. You do not need any prior experience to get involved in KJUC. To apply and for more information, come by the KCSB offices at the bottom of Storke Tower on UCSB Campus. Information/orientation meetings are held at the beginning of every academic quarter (January, April, July, and October). Check out our events page for specfic dates and times.
