Calling All Wolfe Tenants

Ron Wolfe & Associates charges Isla Vista tenants with a questionable security deposit fee. Take action now!
|
According to The California Landlord's Law Book: Rights & Responsibilities (David Brown, 2007), a landlord cannot charge a tenant for administrative costs in the security deposit. Landlords are supposed to cover these overhead expenses through rent payments. Yet Wolfe and Associates currently adds a 10-15% administrative charge to all deductions that are made from security deposits to cover their overhead costs.
Isla Vista Tenants Union is organizing tenants of Ron Wolfe & Associates to dispute this questionable charge. Our goal is to (1) identify a group of students who are willing to dispute the charges through the smalls claims process and (2) collect signatures of all Wolfe tenants who support our efforts. Tenants who do not want to go through the small claims process can still support our efforts by signing a petition that will be brought to Wolfe prior to taking any action in court.
Current1 and former2 tenants interested in supporting our efforts can take the following steps:
- Contact IVTU at (805) 968-6704 or ivtenantsunion@gmail.com. Please provide us with your full name, phone number, local address, and permanent address. Also let us know if you are a current or former tenant.
- Join our Facebook group, Attention All Ron Wolfe Tenants

Support the Boycott of Conquest Student Housing
|
In August 2006, Conquest Student Housing evicted 55 families and long-time Isla Vista residents of the Cedarwood apartments (now renamed Coronado) from their homes to pave way for high-priced student housing. For the tenants, who are mostly low-income Hispanic families, the evictions meant relocation from a place they and their children have called home for the greater part of a decade.
Over 500 community supporters and UCSB students expressed their outrage and protested against the evictions of low-income residents, calling the actions taken by Conquest Student Housing "unconscionable" in light of the tough housing market in the Santa Barbara area. Organizers collected 1,200 signatures from students promising to boycott Conquest Student Housing as a result of the evictions. We are now asking those students to honor their pledge and help "Stop the Conquest of Isla Vista."
Conquest currently manages two Isla Vista properties, Breakpointe and Coronado (a.k.a. Cedarwood), both of which they acquired through mass evictions of low-income residents. On its website, Conquest ominously declares its intention to expand "many new projects at the University of California at Santa Barbara." Yet at what price?
Join Isla Vista Tenants Union and the UCSB Associated Students in its boycott of Conquest Student Housing. Stand up against their mass evictions of Breakpointe and Cedarwood tenants and help prevent the displacement of more low-income families in the future.
