Perpetuating Environmental Change
EAB seeks to engage students from all walks of life through a wide variety of campaigns that address broad aspects of the environmental movement. All of our campaigns are student initiated and run. If you have an idea for an environmental campaign EAB can provide the support and resources to make it a reality!

Political Action
We lobby legislators at every scale for effective climate solutions. Past actions include sending 24 UCSB students to Power Shift in Washington, D.C., a convergence of more than 10,000 young people from all over the country lobbying Congress for green job creation and clean energy. At the event, we presented an in-depth report written by two EAB members documenting the environmental, social, and economic case for renewable energy to 19 congressional assistants.

Day of Action 2009 - Kayak for Climate Solutions |
This winter, EAB will be funding 12 students to Copenhagen, Denmark, as observers to the UN Climate Conference to represent the student voice on the international scale. Our work will continue until aggressive action is taken to curb global emissions and stabilize the climate system.
Sustainable Business
We engage businesses on campus and in the Isla Vista community to encourage energy and waste reduction and green purchasing practices. Check out our Carrotmob event here.
Environmental Education
We spread environmental awareness to youth in the early stages of their educational development (Grades 1 & 2). The Environmental Education team works to instill an environmental ethic in the next generation of leaders by training UCSB students to engage children ages six through eight at local Elementary schools with interactive lessons, experiments, and field trips that foster critical thinking about the world we live in. Check out the Environmental Education Website.
Earth Day
We organize a massive festival in Anisq’oyo Park to celebrate Earth Day in April of each year. The event features live music, organic foods, booths from local businesses, and activities for people of all ages. This year, planned in conjunction with the Environmental Studies Department’s 40th anniversary, the event looks to be extra special!
Environmental Justice
We push for social justice and human rights as they pertain to the environment. We strive to educate the UCSB community about the importance of this often overlooked area of environmentalism. Issues include the disproportional distributions of environmental burdens (pollution, industrial facilities, etd) borne by minority groups as well as equity issues regarding access to healthy food, clean water & air, and other environmental amenities among low income and under represented communities.
Sustainable Foods
We support local and organic farmers by encouraging the purchase of sustainably grown produce in campus dining commons and Isla Vista businesses. We educate local residents about the advantages of a healthy organic diet, and even grow our own fruits and vegetables in our garden plot on campus!
Meatless Monday
We work to raise awareness about the negative environmental, health, and social impacts of meat consumption, and we educate students about the tremendous benefits of cutting out meat from their diets one day a week (or more!). Meatless Monday is part of a national movement to improve the health of people and the planet.

Cigarette Butts
We strive for a cleaner Isla Vista. We’ve worked with the Isla Vista Long Range Development Plan and the Recreation and Park Department to reduce cigarette litter by placing ash urns throughout our community and publicizing concerns related to the improper disposal of cigarette butts and the effect of this waste on our coastal habitat.
Energy Audits
We monitor campus buildings to identify hotspots of energy waste, then use the results of surveys and analysis to encourage technology and behavioral changes that reduce campus-wide demand for fossil-based energy. Our efforts play a significant role in helping UCSB to reach its goal of carbon neutrality by 2020.
