Overview of discussion (not necessarily in order of occurrence)

        Scott

o       Approval of last weeks minutes

o       Composing a DSP advisory committee –this Thursday (Oct. 30th) @ 1:30 in the DSP office.

        advisory committee agenda

·        request twice a quarter meetings

·        request DSP advertising for the meetings?

·        request written denial of service for any services that have been requested and DSP cannot provide

Should this be it’s own group made up of 1 representative from each disability type?  Can CODA handle this?

Should we involve the Vice Chancellor?  Do we need higher authority?  Is there a black and gold list at the DSP?  The potential threat of retribution for student participation?

o       We will be increasing the meeting from 2:00 – 3:15.

o       Still working on the finances

o       Still working on the social logistics

        Ali

o       Let’s look into the evacuation plan for disasters

Jim is involved with this as part of his research.  The evacuation plan seems to address permanent members of departments (staff, faculty, grad students).  Some Students may be slipping through the cracks.

o       Dangerous interchange at stadium road and bike path

        Sean (AS technology guy)

o       Has an IMac we can have.

        We need a PC though

·        Edward has offered to loan one of his PC’s + a 19 inch monitor.

·        Sean to email Ed with the specs.  Ed will bring it in.

·        Looks like we are going to get both.

UCSB to renovate bike path markers – Nexus article discussed

o       Jim is on top of this

It is the heavy vehicle traffic that appears to be eroding the markers

It looks like the mats are the best

Jim has two laws saying that concrete scoring does not meet compliance

New mission Statement – goals, objectives, etc. to come

o       The Associated Students Commission on Disability Access exists to empower students with disabilities and to uphold the basic civil right of equal access while working to ensure a safe and inclusive campus community for all students with disabilities at UCSB.

A student had some suggestions to help the process of extra time on test taking at the DSP— getting a proctor—wrote an email to dsp and cc’d chancellor and vice chancellor.  The vice chancellor would like to talk with some students with disabilities.  Got little/unsatisfactory response from the DSP office.
