RECYCLING INFO: Isla Vista
Where are you?    Isla Vista    UCen/Res. Halls    Campus Indoor    Campus Outdoor

According to 2005 data, Santa Barbara County has one of the highest diversion  rates in the state with 63% and UCSB with 54%, exceeding the state mandate of 50%. However, Isla Vista continues to be the one of most problematic area with the worst recycling rates.*

“Blue IV” Campaign
A.S. Environmental Affairs Board (EAB) spearheads the way for improvements with the “Blue IV” campaign working with Isla Vista Recreation and Park Department (IVRPD), Isla Vista Trash Management, A.S. Coastal Fund, and the County of Santa Barbara.  The first accomplishment was replacing all the brown recycling bins with blue ones in order for users to identify bins for recyclables only. A new Red Cup Recycling Program and more incentives for businesses to recycle are on its way.

To get involved, attend an EAB meeting on Tuesdays at 7pm in the GSA Lounge, 2nd floor of UCen’s Multicultural Center.
